As I said before a lot of his feeling of value and importance came from this past / the role he believed he had, now that it’s being taken away from him so as a result he believes he no longer has any value and purpose. King not only has to come to terms with the truth but also faces what it means for him personally. The scene between Luz and King is emotional and heartfelt especially with amazing voice acting from Alex Hirsch. Especially with how this makes him question what’s real and what’s not, another understandable reaction after believing something his whole life. That’s why these revelations are so devastating and hard for him to believe. If we believe something and others make fun of it / don’t believe us it can be a natural instinct to fall even harder onto that belief and reinforce it more. King not only acted the way he did because of what he believed about his past, but also because of the actions of those around him.

This is important for them to hear and for him to openly akcnowlege. After Eda tells him the story his first instinct is to accuse them of “just making fun of him like usual”. This not only applies to King’s growth but also his relationship with others.

While I felt writing wise this was a strain on his character and the story it pays off now as we see him come to terms with not just his actions, but that everything he clung to in taking those actions was a lie. King has had an understanding of his past and wants to make it clear to others, because of the position he’s in and how others don’t believe him it makes it challenging for any form of growth to have a long term effect. While each time he’d acknowledge growth it never seemed to stick, this episode highlighted why. This caused him to consistently have to relearn lessons about looking out for others and that fame and recognition isn’t everything. King has always been vocal and acting in how he sees himself as “above everyone”. Going back to what I said about not being the biggest fan of past King episodes because of a continues cycle of backtracking with his development, I see this episode as a turning point in that trend. While some may be upset with how for now this is different than many of the elaborate theories people had built up, I personally loved this choice. I also appreciated this flashback in many ways and story wise think this was a great direction to go. First off baby King is ADORABLE like I already have a King plush but I want a baby King plush too. When Eda arrives she’s finally open with King about the truth of how they met and how she was the one who made him belive he’s the King he’s always believed he is.

Not only Lilith was humbled in this episode but King as well. As they move forward this is an important thing for them to be aware of especially Lilith because despite how she’s no longer with the coven we saw in the beginning of this episode how she still clings to the history she has been taught about the Isles. This is a very important line not only for the way Lilith looks at things humbling her but also with how this history of witches and the Isles may not all be recorded and can be altered to fit the Emperor’s vision and push for control, we’ve seen him lie before. “Who knows what other parts of history we scholars have missed.” Not only here as Lilith notes how this can alter her mindset in other contexts as well, While in the end King wasn’t right I think this was still important for Lilith being pushed to look beyond what’s recorded. This causes them to question their doubt in King.
